Fire does $40K in damage to city home

PARKERSBURG – The Parkersburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire late Saturday night at the intersection of 25th and Elm streets in Parkersburg.

Chief Fire Inspector Tim Flinn said the fire at 1610 25th St., Parkersburg, was reported by passing motorists and nearby residents at about 10:17 p.m. Saturday.

The house is owned by Jennifer Lane. No one was home at the time of the fire, Flinn said. The damage was estimated at $40,000.

Flinn said no injuries were reported and the exact cause is undetermined but most probably accidental. The origin appeared to be on an outside wall near the backporch deck where an electrical receptacle was found.

“This was a good stop by responding firefighters to keep the fire from extending to nearby other areas of the home and detached garage,” Flinn.

The home was equipped with one smoke detector.
