Downtown PKB plans informational meeting

PARKERSBURG – Downtown PKB will hold an informational meeting next week, seeking volunteers and committee members for a variety of upcoming projects and events.

The event runs from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Blennerhassett Hotel and is open to the public.

Carrie Nesselrode, executive director of Downtown PKB, said the event will be set up in a trade show-style, with information booths on various downtown events and committees.

The idea, she said, is to generate interest in the committees and volunteering based upon community interest.

“We are going out to the community and saying, ‘Would you like to participate?’ ” Nesselrode said. “We have four committees and we will be directing people to those committees, based on their interests.”

The four committees are:

* Design Committee: Focused on beautification and storefront programs.

* Promotions Committee: Focused on promoting downtown through activities and events. This committee oversees events such as the Farmers Market and Taste of Parkersburg.

* Economic Restructuring Committee: Developing ways to make downtown Parkersburg more economically sound and determining what kinds of businesses are needed to fill niches in the downtown marketplace.

* Organization Committee: Volunteer recruitment, the Downtown PKB newsletter and communications in general.

Nesselrode said the first committee meeting dates have already been established, and those initial meetings will determine the schedules and focus for the committees down the road. The committees are not only open to business members, she said, but anyone with an interest in downtown development and revitalization.

“It can be an individual or organization. I can be a school group that is wanting to get involved,” she said. “It’s not just people who live and work in Parkersburg, it is anybody who has an interest in seeing activities and events brought to downtown Parkersburg.”
