FFA Week celebrated

MARIETTA – The Washington County Career Center FFA celebrated FFA week Feb. 25-28.

Among the festivities, staff and students donated money throughout the week to guess how many kernels of corn were in a jar. The first-place winner was Tyler Antill, a senior in the Landscape Construction and Turf Management program, who will get to be the Director for a day.

The second-place winner, Justin Massey, also a senior in the landscape program, will be the assistant director for a day.

Antill guessed 1,616 kernels of corn were in the jar.

Funds raised from FFA week are being donated to the daughter of Rhonda Knoch, a Career Center computer graphics instructor, Rhonda Knoch. Knoch’s daughter, Leslie Andrew, has been undergoing extensive treatments for her fight against melanoma cancer.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the generosity and support,” Knoch said.

More than $430 was raised. To read more about Leslie and find out what you can do for support go onto her website www.teamupforleslie.com.

Kicking off the FFA week activities was Camouflage or Blue and Gold Day which represents the youth organization FFA. A hot dog eating contest was won by Braden Hewitt, a senior in the landscape program, on Tuesday.

Wednesday was designated as Hat Day where students and staff donated $1 to wear them. Ending the week of fun activities, FFA students sponsored a Hillbilly Vehicle Judging Contest with a $2 entry fee going toward the donation project. Norman Pritchard, a junior in the masonry program, hailed as the winner.
