City man arrested on drug charges

PARKERSBURG – Parkersburg Police Department arrested a Parkersburg man on drug charges Friday around noon.

An officer checked a car parked on the lot at 2301 Pike St., discovering an unresponsive male inside. The officer questioned the man to determine his condition, police said.

Joseph Russell Mason, 22, 4416 Ninth Ave., Parkersburg, was arrested on charges of felony possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, police said.

The arresting officer allegedly observed a large machete inside the vehicle and asked Mason to exit the car. Another officer arrived to assist, officials said.

The two officers found three machetes, a loaded .38 revolver, a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun, knives, a small amount of suspected marijuana and methamphetamine, three sets of digital scales, plastic bags, drug paraphernalia and $1,200 in the car, police said. The charges are misdemeanors and will be filed at a later date, police said.

Mason was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and released on a $20,000 bond, according to court records.
