Teacher involved in fort incident identified
PARKERSBURG -Wood County Schools Superintendent Pat Law identified the teacher whose suspension was upheld by the board of education Wednesday as Amanda Terrell.
Terrell was suspended by administrators from Jan. 10-16 as a result of her actions in the “Bad Kid Fort” incident. Tuesday, the board voted 4-1 to uphold the suspension, but officials, citing legal advice, declined to release the name of the individual until Wednesday morning. Law said in the future if the name of an employee is needed by the media following a suspension he will release it.
Board president Tim Yeater was the lone no vote and the only member to comment on the matter. Yeater said the employees go to great lengths to serve the system and they are not perfect. He also did not believe Terrell’s intent in the incident was malicious.
Terrell stated in an email to The News and Sentinel she has been advised not to comment.
Beth Dean, whose son was the center of the incident, addressed the board again Tuesday. Dean said there are still two government agencies that have yet to perform formal investigations.
“How can they say the disciplinary action they took was sufficient if they don’t know what happened,” she said. “I’m shocked and amazed, but not surprised.”
