Driver killed in 2-vehicle collision near Rockport

ROCKPORT – One driver died and another was injured after their pickup trucks collided head-on Friday afternoon on West Virginia 21 near Rockport, said the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.

Jamie Thompson, 32, of Mineral Wells, was driving a Ford F-150 southbound when he swerved into the northbound lane of W.Va. 21, in the 5000 block, and struck a Chevrolet S-10 driven by Greg Starcher, 21, of Rockport head-on, deputies said.

Starcher died as a result of the accident, authorities said.

The cause of the crash has not been determined, deputies said.

After the collision, Starcher’s vehicle was forced into a nearby house about 2:15 p.m. Friday, said Chief Deputy Shawn Graham.

“The crash team is investigating,” Graham said. “Charges are pending,” Graham said.

Damage to the house was not immediately known, but police said there was a hole left in the front of the house after the incident. The name of the homeowner was not known.

Officials said Thompson was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center by EMS and later to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Starcher was pronounced dead at CCMC, Graham said.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, authorities said.

An earlier report misquoted Graham as saying both drivers died in the accident.
