PARKERSBURG – A Walker man and a Parkersburg woman were arrested Monday in connection with the burglary of a Liberty Street residence.
Parkersburg Police said Dustin Ray Kinney, 20, 5363 Oak Grove Drive, Walker, and Casey Gabriel Hornbeck, 22, 3818 Liberty Street, Apt. 3, Parkersburg, were arrested after search warrants were obtained and executed. They were charged with felony burglary and are in custody at the North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $60,000 bond.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court, on Jan. 18, the suspects entered the residence of Billy Cottrill at 3824 Liberty St., Parkersburg, by forcing open the front door and removing numerous items. Police said items valued at approximately $18,700 were taken.
Acting on a tip and other information obtained during the investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at 3818 Liberty St., Apt. 3, around 9 p.m. Jan. 18. The occupants were interviewed and several items from the burglary were allegedly found, police said.
Based on information received from the search warrant, detectives and agents of the Parkersburg Narcotics and Violent Crimes Task Force began surveillance at a Mineral Wells hotel at 11 p.m. Jan. 18.
Several individuals exited the hotel, police said, and approached a vehicle suspected of being involved in the burglary. Six individuals were detained and questioned at the scene; three of the six were taken to the Parkersburg Police Department and interviewed.
A hotel room was secured by investigators in preparation for a search warrant.
At about 3:25 a.m. Jan. 19, detectives executed a search warrant on the room, finding many items allegedly stolen during the Liberty Street burglary and finding items on the hillside outside the hotel room, police said.
Police completed processing the evidence at approximately 5 a.m. Jan. 19, ending nearly 17 hours of investigation for the day. Detectives have recovered more than 90 percent of the stolen items from the burglary, with the recovered items valued at an estimated $16,500, police said.
Police said the investigation is continuing with additional arrests imminent.
Kinney was arrested Jan. 10 for allegedly breaking into a vehicle but was released on a $500 bond. During that incident, Parkersburg officers responded in reference to a vehicle entry in the 500 block of Division Street.
Wood County 911 dispatchers provided a description of a suspect who had allegedly thrown a large piece of concrete through the window of a 2001 Mercury Cougar, stole a purse from the car, and fled the area. An officer spotted two people, one matching the suspect’s description, about one block from the scene, police said.
When approached by police, Kinney allegedly became belligerent and attempted to pull away from officers. Kinney was placed under arrest with a search of his person allegedly revealing a small amount of marijuana and items stolen during the reported vehicle entry.
