New Matamoras man barricades himself in house

MARIETTA – Washington County authorities responded Tuesday night to an incident involving a person firing shots.

The incident was still under way at press time Tuesday.

Contacted just before midnight Tuesday, Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks identified the person as Kevin R. Bartlett, 48, of Jackson Run Road, New Matamoras.

Mincks said Bartlett – who is known to authorities and has a criminal record – appeared to have been drinking heavily and barricaded himself in his home off Ohio 260 in the Lawrence Township area of Washington County, northeast of Marietta.

Mincks said Bartlett had fired a couple of shots from a shotgun out his back door – not toward deputies or anyone else – and was refusing to surrender.

The WCSO had a team at the site Tuesday night negotiating with the person, but no further information was available, Mincks said.
