Morrison arrested for intimidation of witness

MARIETTA – The mother of two teens implicated in last fall’s string of daytime burglaries in Marietta has been arrested for intimidation of a witness.

Jessie Morrison, 35, of 407 Lord St., was arrested at her home Monday night on a warrant for intimidation of a crime witness, a third-degree felony, said Capt. Jeff Waite of the Marietta Police Department.

The intimidation allegedly took place Thursday evening when Morrison called the victim and threatened physical harm, Waite said.

“She also threatened to do damage to his car and his home,” said Waite.

Six people, including the 15- and 17-year-old boys, were ultimately arrested in November in connection with the fall burglaries.

Also arrested was Carl Robison, 19, of 235 Johnson Road; Tiffany Conant, also known as Tiffany Johnston, 24, of 108 Riley Drive; Brandon Schmidt, 22, of 830 Ridge St.; and Steven Frances, 19, of 235 Johnson Road.

The police have been unable to pinpoint the exact number of houses affected, but at least 16 burglaries were reported in Marietta in September and October.

The man threatened by Morrison was the victim of a burglary, said Waite. However, it preceded the string of burglaries in Marietta in September and October and was not considered a part of those incidents, said Waite.

Waite declined to release the victim’s identity, citing the pending status of the cases.

The arrests have so far led to one indictment, that of Robison, for three second-degree felony counts of burglary and a third-degree felony count of tampering with evidence.

The 15-year-old was charged with burglary, a second-degree felony. He was also charged with resisting arrest, vandalism, tampering with evidence and violation of supervised release.

The 17-year-old was charged with vandalism, resisting arrest and violation of supervised release.

The juveniles have not yet been tried in connection to the charges, said Waite, but are still incarcerated.

It is not clear exactly what information Morrison was trying to stifle with her threat, he said.

Waite said it’s likely Morrison knew the victim prior to the threat, but declined to comment on the nature of their acquaintance.

Both Morrison and the victim have homes in the Harmar district, he said.

Morrison is being held in the Washington County Jail on a $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing in her case is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Jan. 23 in Marietta Municipal Court.
