Council to tackle committees, truck purchase
PARKERSBURG – Parkersburg City Council will meet Tuesday to make committee appointments and consider the purchase of a new truck.
Council meets at 7:30 p.m. in chambers on the second floor of the municipal building.
Among the agenda items are the appointments to council committees for 2013 by Council President Jim Reed.
“At the beginning of the year you re-appoint people to committees,” Reed said.
Council has three standing committees – finance, personnel and public works – and some council members also are asked to serve on outside committees, Reed said.
“We try to accommodate people as much as we can, but we will rearrange them a little bit, give everyone an opportunity to serve,” he said.
Mayor Bob Newell is expected to ask council to approve Parkersburg resident Harold Stockwell for appointment to the Municipal Planning Commission. Stockwell’s term would end Dec. 31, 2015.
Council also is expected to vote on the final reading of an ordinance for the lease or purchase of a truck for the city’s Building and Grounds Department. The cost would be $30,498.
