Council’s first meeting of 2013 approaching

PARKERSBURG – Parkersburg City Council will begin 2013 by selecting a new president and vice president on Tuesday.

Council meets at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers on the second floor of the Municipal Building. The offices are the top two items on Tuesday’s agenda.

Council also is expected to confirm the appointment of four administrators, appointments that are required at the beginning of the mayor’s new term. Bob Newell was elected to a third term as mayor in the November election.

The administrators up for approval are City Attorney Joe Santer, Personnel Director Pam Salvage, Development Director Ann Conageski and Municipal Judge William Crichton.

Three other administrators – Finance Director Angie Smith, City Engineer Justin Smith and Public Works Director Rick Lemley – took the oath of office last Wednesday in a small swearing-in ceremony at the Municipal Building.

The council will vote on a resolution concerning the annexation of property parcels near Grandview Street and will hold the first reading of an ordinance to purchase a new truck for the building and grounds department.

Newell said he will give his annual “state-of-the-city” address at Tuesday’s meeting, updating council on the city’s progress in 2012 and challenges for the coming year.

Prior to the meeting, council will hold a swearing-in ceremony for Newell and four new council members. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
