Car rolls on Groves Avenue
MARIETTA – A single-vehicle accident shut down the top half of the hill that comprises Groves Avenue for approximately an hour Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of a beige Mazda 626 LX was trapped in her vehicle after landing upside down near the top of the hill, said Capt. Jack Hansis of the Marietta Fire Department.
The driver, Elizabeth Beittel, 56, of Marietta, was the only one in the vehicle. She was removed from the car by emergency responders from the Marietta Fire Department, said Hansis.
“We pried the door open and brought her out on a backboard,” said Hansis.
The driver was not ambulatory, but was conscious and responsive, said Hansis.
She was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released Wednesday evening, said a nursing supervisor.
The vehicle was upside down with the front of the vehicle facing uphill. Skid marks farther up on the hill led off the right side of the road and pointed toward the embankment, indicating the vehicle had both flipped and rolled, said Hansis.
However, there were no witnesses, so the nature of the accident is not yet certain.
Police also investigated a one-vehicle crash late Wednesday along Indian Run Road. A vehicle went off the road and into a creek, according to reports from the scene. Both occupants were reported alert and taken to MMH.
