Two college concerts scheduled for April

MARIETTA – The Edward E. MacTaggart Department of Music will present two concerts in April.

The Spring Jazz Concert, “Rockin’ in Rhythm,” will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Friederich Theatre in the Hermann Fine Arts Center at MC.

Performing in the free concert will be the Marietta College Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Professor Marshall C. Kimball and FloodStage, MC’s vocal jazz group, under the direction of Daniel Monek.

The next concert will be the Spring Band Concert at 7:30 p.m. April 22 in Fenton Court of the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center at MC.

The free concert will feature the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble under Kimball’s direction.

The Symphonic Band will perform “Vesuvius” by Frank Ticheli, and “Ride” by Sam Hazo. Senior music education major Emma Burger will be guest conductor for “Yosemite Autumn” by Mark Camphous.

The band also will give the world-premiere performance of “Vignettes” by David Avshalomov, a piece commissioned for the ensemble.

The Wind Ensemble will be performing: “Escape from Plato’s Cave” by Stephen Meilillo, “Silver Fantasy” for Flute and “Wind Ensemble” by Paul West Osterfield, and “Apocalyptic Dreams” by David Gillingham. “Silver Fantasy” will feature Marietta College flute instructor Lindsey Goodman as the soloist.
