PARKERSBURG — The band Classic Petra Rock, which was formerly named Petra, will be performing in the newly remodeled Parkersburg High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Classic Petra Rock is now doing a Back To The Rock 2 world tour. Petra, billed as one of the world’s most popular Christian rock bands, was originally formed in 1972.

Their accomplishments include 13 Grammy Awards nominations, 11 Dove Awards, and 10 million albums sold. Throughout the 1980s and into the ’90s, Petra traveled internationally performing in 18 nations. They regularly sold out arenas and placed songs at the top of the Christian radio charts, according to a press release.

Petra was the first rock band inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the first Christian band whose memorabilia was included in the Hard Rock Cafe restaurant chain, a press release stated.

Tim Craft and High on Hope Ministries in Parkersburg and Freedom Gate Church of Marietta are partnering with this concert event.

Any proceeds after costs will be given to Tim Craft and High on Hope Ministries to help people who are battling drug addiction, said John Vantana of Parkersburg, concert spokesman.

Area pastors and churches are participating and volunteering to serve this regional event.

Classic Petra Rock — CPR “has a fresh new mandate upon them to be instruments in the hand of the Father in bringing the prodigals home,” according to a press release. As band leader Greg X. Voltz says, “Prodigals are the ones who once tasted the goodness of God and somehow got tripped up by the enemy. God is using us to bring back the prodigals to Father’s house.”

The concert will be high energy sound and lights with a powerful, compelling message, promoters said. “These seasoned artists are passionate and focused on their mission.”

General admission is $10, balcony tickets are $7.50 and a VIP with meet and greet is $40. Tickets will be available at the door and can be purchased online at PETRAMOV.com.

At the concert event Tim Craft will share breakthroughs in freedom from addiction and current initiatives that are equipping cities to combat the addiction crisis, concert organizers said. In the past two years, Craft has been part of two faith-based residential treatment programs opening in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Treatment placement, crisis intervention and equipping churches and communities are all part of High on Hope’s mission, concert organizers said.
