Honey Festival to be held Aug. 17-18
PARKERSBURG — The 2019 West Virginia State Honey Festival will be Aug. 17-18 at City Park.
The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 18. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children ages 7-13 years and free for ages 6 and under.
Now in its 39th year, the honey festival will feature a variety of activities, entertainments and displays. The focus is to promote the honey industry, as well as having crafts, entertainment and Henry Cooper Log Cabin tours, organizers said. The festival is in its sixth year as a fundraiser and program of the Wood County Recreation Commission.
The festival will feature music, crafts, a honey and wax show, honey and beeswax products, honey extraction and live beehive demonstrations, candle dipping and cooking demonstrations, historical presentations and live bee beards by Steve Conlon.
There will be a West Virginia Honey Car Show by Pioneer Antique Auto Club. The 27th annual Antique Car and Truck Show will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at City Park. The rain date is Sunday. Registration for the car show will be 9 a.m. to noon. The entry fee is $10 for the show and admission to the Honey Festival. Cars will be judged about one hour after arrival. All cars and trucks are welcome, but only those from 1992 or older will be judged. Prizes will be awarded for Top 40, Best of Show, Best Original and Best Street Rod.
The West Virginia State Honey Festival Pageant will be 10 a.m. Aug. 10 at Brickhouse Parkersburg, 2311 Ohio Ave., Suite B, Parkersburg. The pageant is open to female contestants ages 5 -15 who are residents of West Virginia or Washington County in Ohio.
The winners of the pageant will reign over the West Virginia State Honey Festival at City Park on Aug. 17-18.The divisions for this year’s pageant are: Little Miss 5-8 years; Princess 9-12 years and Teen 13-15 years.
In a new addition to this year’s event, there will also be a West Virginia State Honey Festival Tiny Tot Pageant at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 at City Park during the festival.
Registration is 9-9:45 a.m. with a $15 fee per contestant. Attire is Sunday best. The age groups are: Boys age 0-1; Girls age 0-1; Boys age 2; Girls age 2; Boys age 3; Girls age 3; Boys age 4; and Girls age 4.
