Parkersburg Art Center to present Bow WOW Meow exhibit
PARKERSBURG — Professional and amateur artists from throughout the region will have their works on display at the Parkersburg Art Center in an exhibit opening Sunday and remaining on display through Aug. 24.
The show kicks off with an opening reception and awards ceremony from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday.
“We have invited artists living within 100 miles of Parkersburg to enter up to three pieces of their artwork in the 2019 Regional Exhibit, “Bow, WOW Meow,” said Abby Hayhurst, artistic director for the Parkersburg Art Center. “Though artwork does not have to follow the theme, this year’s theme is such a fun one! Artists were encouraged to paint their pooch, craft their cat in clay or immortalize their favorite critter in any artistic medium they like. This is all original work that has been completed within the past four years.”
Artwork was not juried into this show so everything that was submitted will be hung. The art center will, however, be awarding prizes to a few talented local artists. Prizes are in four categories, 2D, 3D, Photo/Digital and Theme.
There will also be a couple of special prizes along with the Best in Show award. Cash prizes are directly indexed to the amount of entry fees collected.
“We are pleased to bring in Allison Helm, Director of the School of Art and Design at WVU Morgantown, to select the prize winners. Allison is a renowned sculptor whose glass installations are on many Carnival Cruise Ships. She is also an avid painter, potter and equestrian,” said Hayhurst.
The opening reception is free for exhibitors, art center members and children 12 and younger. Otherwise, admission is $10 for non-art center members. “Bow WOW Meow” will be open for viewing Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Aug. 24. Daily admission to the art center is $2 for non-members, with no charge for children under 12 and the art center is always free on Wednesdays. The Parkersburg Art Center is located at the corner of Eighth and Market streets in downtown Parkersburg. The Bow WOW Meow exhibit is made possible by the support of United Bank.
