Blennerhassett Island plans events
PARKERSBURG — A pair of events are scheduled this weekend involving Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park at Parkersburg.
On Friday, the first Point Park Music Series Dinner Cruise of the summer will be 6-7:30 p.m. on the Island Belle Sternwheeler.
Tickets are $27 for adults and $21 for children ages 3-12 by calling 304-420-4800. Seating is limited and reservations are required.
The cruise features a country-style dinner and boat ride on the Ohio River in conjunction with the Point Park Music Series organized by Downtown PKB. The boat will depart Point Park at 6 p.m. and return 7:30 p.m. The free concert begins at 8 p.m. at the Point Park Amphitheatre. Friday’s concert features “1988,” a Def Leppard tribute band.
On Saturday, Blennerhassett Island will feature “Wings of Wonder – West Virginia Live Birds of Prey” at 1:30 p.m. on the island.
The Three Rivers Avian Center will present a program with live birds (endangered and birds of prey). Directors Ron and Wendy Perone will present an hour-long program about the birds they have at the center.
Three Rivers Avian Center is dedicated to providing veterinary and rehabilitative care to threatened wild birds as well as educating and involving the public in ecosystem stewardship. From hummingbirds to eagles, wading birds to soaring birds, TRAC cares for each species’ individual requirements; including diet, perching, water access, caging substrates, light levels, and behavioral needs.
The raptor program itself is free to attend, with the only cost being the boat ride to the island. The Island Belle sternwheeler begins operating at 11 a.m. and will depart at the top of the hours from Point Park. The boat ride is $10 for adults and $8 for children age 3-12. Plan to ride the 11 a.m., noon or 1 p.m. boat to see that presentation of live birds.
