NELSONVILLE, Ohio — Stuart’s Opera House will host an evening of music with Bob Boilen of NPR Music presenting Tank & The Bangas on Friday at 8 p.m.

After becoming the crowd favorites at the 2018 Nelsonville Music Festival, Tank & The Bangas return, this time to the Stuart’s stage. This show is presented in collaboration with The Ohio University Scripps College of Communication, in partnership with the Ohio University Performing Arts & Concert Series, the School of Media Arts & Studies, the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, WOUB Public Media, Stuart’s Opera House, and Arts for OHIO.

Boilen, host of NPR’s “All Songs Considered” and the creator and host of NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts,” will host the evening. Coming from New Orleans, Tank and the Bangas are surrounded by grand musical traditions. And the five-piece group has a knack for combining various musical styles–fiery soul, deft hip-hop, deep-groove R&B and subtle jazz–into a dazzling, cohesive whole that evokes the scope of New Orleans music while retaining a distinctive feel all its own, Stuart’s said.

Tickets are on sale at (740) 753-1924 or stuartsoperahouse.org. The group won NPR’s 2017 Tiny Desk Concert Contest by unanimous acclaim, standing out among 6,000 entrants because of what Bob Boilen called “the depth of their lyricism and the versatility of their players.”
