Geppetto Woodcarvers plan show at Parkersburg Art Center
PARKERSBURG — The Geppetto Woodcarvers will demonstrate woodcarving 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Parkersburg Art Center.
In addition to the woodcarving demonstrations, club members will be available to discuss tools and resources needed to begin woodcarving.
“We were just so pleased when Fred Esker approached us with this idea,” said Jessie Siefert, managing director of the art center at Eighth and Market streets. “We have painters, potters, sketchers and sculptors working out of our studios but we have not had any woodcarving going on here in quite a while. These guys create some amazing things.”
For over 25 years the Geppetto Woodcarvers club has helped introduce the art of woodcarving to people in the Mid-Ohio Valley area and beyond.
The club draws members from Clarksburg to Charleston; Athens and Marietta. Members carve a wide variety of items in various styles including chip carving, in-the-round, relief, folk art and caricature.
The Geppetto Woodcarvers club meets from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second Saturday of the month at the Woodcraft store at 4420 Emerson Ave., Parkersburg. Members also meet on Thursdays for open carving at the Woodcraft location.
The club maintains a large reference library and other resources available to members. Currently there are 30 members from the Mid-Ohio Valley and surrounding areas. Woodcarvers of all abilities are welcome.
