Comfort Keepers helps couple keep romance
MARIETTA — In Marietta, a real-life version of the popular Nicholas Sparks novel, “The Notebook,” has been playing out for several years now.
James Seevers, 87, spends as much time as he can with his 83-year-old wife, Jane, visiting her daily while she resides in a dementia care unit at a local nursing home. James still lives at home with the help of Comfort Keepers, which drives him to visit his wife.
Moved by the husband’s devotion and their upcoming 64th wedding anniversary, Joanie Yeomans, owner of the Comfort Keepers franchise location in Marietta, asked to honor the Seevers as part of its 20 Years, 20 Wishes celebration. The celebration is commemorating the company’s 20th anniversary by granting 20 wishes to clients and caregivers across the system throughout the year.
Comfort Keepers helps seniors and adults maintain their independence and quality of life. As one of the world’s largest in-home senior care organizations, Comfort Keepers brings joy and receives joy in return from its clients every day. Being present with his wife daily brings both James and Jane joy of the most tangible kind. Assisting the Seevers to keep their love alive is an excellent example of Comfort Keepers fulfilling its mission.
Comfort Keepers surprised the Seevers with their 64th anniversary dinner. When they walked into the Harmar Place Extended Care’s coffee shop had been transformed into a private dining room where there was candlelight, flowers, the couple’s favorite prime rib dinner, and a pianist who played just for them. The Seevers were joined by their daughter and son-in-law, granddaughter and great-granddaughter who celebrated the event with them. The couple was surprised and overjoyed by the dinner.
“While providing transportation for James to and from Jane’s nursing home, we have been blessed to observe true love. The kindness, mutual respect, and compassion they show one another is a model for us all to follow.” says Comfort Keepers owner David Yeomans.
Comfort Keepers helps the couple with a variety of needs. They help James to maintain the family home and prepare him meals. They assist Jane with extra personal care, grooming and TLC so James can feel good about her needing to reside in a nursing home at this phase in life. Most importantly, they make sure the couple has time together every day.
With more than 600 offices in the U.S. and over 700 worldwide, Comfort Keepers has become a valued resource over the last 20 years for families and seniors who depend on Comfort Keepers for loving, comforting care. Founded in 1998 from a single, Springfield, Ohio location, Comfort Keepers now comprises a vast network of franchises across the nation and around the world that provide in-home care services, respite care services, Alzheimer’s and dementia care and other services for seniors and adults.
