Sixth-grader donates birthday money to ‘Anna’s Army’
PARKERSBURG — Brody Allman, an Edison Middle School sixth-grade basketball player, recently presented Anna Gordon with $350 at the “Anna’s Army” basketball game at Parkersburg South High School.
Allman has been attending Parkersburg South High School basketball coach Mike Fallon’s camps for several years and heard at each camp about Gordon’s battle with Friedreich’s Ataxia and the work of “Anna’s Army” to raise awareness and funds. Friedreich’s Ataxia is a progressive disease of the nerves and muscles, causing difficulty in walking and other problems.
At his birthday party on June 20, Allman, 11, asked all his friends to bring a donation for Anna’s Army instead of a gift for him.
In appreciation for the gesture, Fallon presented Allman with a boys basketball team backpack that has the purple and yellow stitched ribbons representing both Anna’s Army and Hailley Strong (Hailley Parsons is a South student who has overcome pediatric cancer).
