VIENNA — A team of Jackson Middle School students won the statewide ornament contest sponsored by the wife of the governor.

Eighth-graders Lily Floyd, Rohan Malik-Hamirani, Kaylee Miller and Olivia Welch made the ornament under the direction of teacher Kay Mason.

The contest is sponsored by Cathy Justice, wife of Gov. Jim Justice. The ornament honors the West Virginia tourism and industry and depicts a mountain with a ski slope on one side and a coal mine underneath.

Mason and the students were honored by the Justices at the Joyful Night event Tuesday in Charleston.

Joyful Night in the Lincoln Plaza of the Capitol included performances by bands from the state and the lighting of the state Christmas tree.
