Trinity Used Book Sale nearing
PARKERSBURG — The annual Trinity Used Book Sale will be held next week at Trinity Episcopal Church on Juliana Street in downtown Parkersburg.
The sale will be Nov. 5-10 at the church at 430 Juliana St. in Parkersburg.
Proceeds from the longtime sale are split among the church’s programs and several community programs.
The sale hours will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 5-8, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 9 and 9 a.m.-noon on Nov. 10.
Lunch will be served on the first four days of the sale from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
There will be a bake sale and Christmas gift sale in the church’s library during the first couple of days of the sale.
Since Trinity is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year, there will be church tours at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 5-8.
Since earlier this year, volunteers at the church have been collecting used books in preparation for the November sale. Approximately 40,000 to 50,000 books are usually sold each year, in 25 categories including classic literature, fiction, westerns, romance, science fiction, reference and textbooks.
Cookbooks, children’s books and “gems” will be individually priced, while all other books will be priced as hardbacks and paperbacks. Books will be sold at half price on Nov. 8-9 and $3 per bag on Nov. 10.
Unsold books at the end of the sale are given to local charities, so each year’s sale is stocked with recent donations.
The church uses the money it makes from the sale to contribute to 17 organizations, which have included the West Virginia Youth Foundation, Parkersburg Day Nursery, the Salvation Army, Horizons, Old Man Rivers, the Good Samaritan Clinic and the American Red Cross.
It contributes half the money made in the sale to the organizations and the other half goes to Trinity for its programs including a Monday feeding program, a food closet and a clothes closet.
