PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Art Center is revving up for the 6×6 sale, which will open on Friday, Nov.16.

The gong will sound at 5:30 p.m. sharp and the crowd will start picking out their favorite works of art, art center officials said. Friday night’s opening is free for participating artists, Parkersburg Art Center members and their guests.

“We will have more than 1,200 small works of art in a variety of mediums and styles this year,” said Dorsey Northrup, of the Parkersburg Art Center Board of Trustees and event chairperson. “We have paintings, embroidery, collage, photography, drawings, pottery and more. All are a 6 X6 inch square.”

Artists from near and far have participated this year.

“I am so excited, my coworkers and students loved the opportunity to give something back to the Parkersburg community and students loved the chance to participate in a show,” said Monica James, professor of art at Edmonds Community College in Washington state. ” I have the whole Visual Arts Department riled up about the 6×6 event!”

Whether the work is by a nationally recognized artist or student painter, all 6x6s will be $20.

Frames and “edible 6X6s” will also be available for purchase.

“These are wonderful stocking stuffers and Christmas gifts,” Northrup said. “It is also an excellent opportunity to start your own collection of original artwork.”

“The Parkersburg Art Center would like to thank all who contributed to this amazing, community event. We would also like to thank our friends at Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal,” said Jessie Siefert, managing director of the Art Center.

Anyone may preview the artwork exhibit starting on Tuesday, Nov. 13 during regular hours. The 6x6s will continue to be displayed and for sale during regular Art Center hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through December 22.
