PARKERSBURG — The Grinch Candy Cane Hunt will be 12:30 p.m. Dec. 22 at The Dils Center, 521 Market St.

The free event is sponsored by the Dils Center and hosted by Mamaology, a nonprofit outreach organization that provides education, resources and support throughout pregnancy, birth and parenting.

Hot cocoa and treats will be provided after the candy cane hunt downtown, which begins at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to children who find special candy canes and photographs will be taken with The Grinch.

Registration and story time will be held before the hunt.

All tickets have been sold for a breakfast with The Grinch at the Dils Center on Dec. 22.

Before the candy cane hunt, children will sit down and listen to a story read by Cindy Lou Who and then be given the instructions to go outside and hunt down candy canes, said the Mamaology group. “The Grinch will be stealing candy canes and there will be special candy canes that will win the child a prize.”

Volunteers are needed for both events, especially the candy cane hunt. Mamaology also needs donations of red candy canes, small inexpensive toys, and gift cards to local grocery stores.

If you’re interested in being a volunteer or donating an item contact Nicole at 304-482-5369 or Brittany at 304-917-9850.

Mamaology hosts local workshops, free and low cost family events, play groups, and social networking support groups.

A group of experienced and friendly families is dedicated to promoting the best informed decisions for the future of local children and encouraging individual choices for each unique situation, Mamaology board members said.

Money raised during fundraisers is used toward free events and workshops, for educational tools for board members to lead workshops, and for tools to help the community, such as a cloth diaper rental library, babywearing library, and providing Christmas for a family in need.

The website is Mamaology.com, Facebook page is called Mamaology and the Facebook support group for women is called “Mamaology private discussion group.”
