BELPRE — GFWC Belpre Woman’s Club has partnered with Brett Lyons of Crazy Bone Pet Spa for the fourth year to sponsor the Canine Costume Contest Saturday.

Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. at Belpre’s Civitan Park as part of Belpre Lions Club’s Apple Butter Stir-Off. Entry fee per dog is $5, with the contest starting at 2 p.m.

Dress your dog in his or her Funniest, Most Creative, or Most Patriotic costumes. If you and your favorite dog have matching costumes, there’s a prize category for you, too. Dogs will be in two weight groups: Small-Less than 15 pounds or Large-15 pounds or more. Prizes will be awarded in both weight groups in the four categories above.

Every dog entered in the contest will receive a bag of treats. Dogs must be on a leash at all times, current on their vaccinations, and sociable around children and adults. A photographer will be on site taking photos of your prince or princess.

Proceeds will be donated to Canine Companions for Independence Veterans Initiative, an organization that provides free assistance dogs for veterans with disabilities. General Federation of Women’s Clubs is a partner with Canine Companions for Independence.
