NEW MARTINSVILLE — ArtsLink’s 2018-19 Concert Series continues on Sunday with a performance of “Beauty and the Beast” by the Oglebay Institute Youth Ballet. at 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater with opening numbers by the All Valley School of Dance.

This season’s ballets are sponsored by Marble King.

Tickets for ArtsLink members are $10 for an individual and $20 for a family (two adults and kids under 18), for non-members $15 for individuals and $25 for a family, students are $5, and will be available at the door.

Additionally, season tickets are available for the remaining five concerts in the series. The cost is $36 for an individual and $72 for a family.

OI’s Youth Ballet Company dances the journey of Belle, a caring, intelligent, beautiful, young woman who attempts to rescue her father and is captured by the Beast, a grisly and fearsome monster, who was long ago trapped in his gruesome form by an enchantress.

With friends, villains and life lessons along the way, the show is a contemporary production featuring dozens of beautifully costumed dancers and captivating dances of original choreography.

“Our ballet performances feature well-loved stories that children can relate to. Kids not only get excited about seeing characters they love, but also see stories presented in new and interesting ways,” said Oglebay Institute director of dance Cheryl Pompeo.

Oglebay Institute’s team of seven choreographers based its ballet on the traditional 18th Century story by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve but weaved in elements from modern-day versions.

“We have taken ideas from both the original story as well as the Disney version and the movie, but have created an original piece of choreography that should entertain the audience with familiar music, beautiful costumes and fabulous dancers,” said Pompeo.
