Allied Artists of WV Juried Exhibition opens at Parkersburg Art Center
PARKERSBURG — The work of artists from across the state of West Virginia will be on display for the next month at the Parkersburg Art Center in downtown Parkersburg.
The Allied Artists of West Virginia Juried Exhibition will open with a reception and award ceremony from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the art center on Eighth and Market streets.
Admission to the reception is $10 and free for Parkersburg Art Center members. The exhibit will remain on display until Nov. 10.
This is Allied Artists 71st juried exhibit since it started in 1934 and its 10th show at the Parkersburg Art Center.
“We are thrilled to have the Allied Artists show here this fall. The work that they bring is of very high caliber. It really speaks to the talent of artists in our state and the keen eye of the exhibit juror,” said Abby Hayhurst, Art Director for the Parkersburg Art Center.
The show was juried by Chris Krupinsky, who was sent images and picked 80 pieces of work from 106 entries sent in by West Virginia artists. The show consists of works in oil, acrylic and watercolor painting mediums, as well as 3D works in clay and wood.
“There is something for everyone in this show. We hope that the community comes out to celebrate this group of artists,” said Jessie Siefert, Managing Director for the art center.
“Not only is Chris a fine juror, she is also a wonderful artist herself. She recently won Best in Show at our The River exhibit,” Hayhurst added.
Krupinsky was scheduled to be at the art center on Wednesday to choose the prize winners for the show. Sunday’s opening will include the presentation of the awards.
The Parkersburg Art Center is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Cost to visit is $2 but free for PAC members and children 12 and under. Wednesdays are free for everyone.
“We would like to send a big ‘thank you’ to WesBanco who is sponsoring this show. We greatly appreciate their generosity,” Siefert said.
