Poetry in Art
MARIETTA — Sixteen noted poets from the Athens, Marietta and Parkersburg area and 23 artists, which include members of Riverside Artists Gallery, past members and visiting artists, have combined talents to create “Poetry in Art,” a collaborative exhibit, which opens at Riverside Artists Gallery, 219 Second St., on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Regional poets submitted diverse works which were then selected by the artists as sources of inspiration. The resulting artwork engages with the style or subject matter of the poetry, the gallery said. The exhibit will feature artistic media ranging from painting, photography, sculpture, woodwork, ceramics, glass, to mixed-media and collage. Each work of art will be displayed beside the poem that inspired it.
A poetry reading by the participating poets and a discussion by the artists of how the poetry inspired their art pieces will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at the opening reception. Attendees will learn how works of poetry have inspired works of art.
The show continues through Sept. 29.
