MINERAL WELLS — The Little Free Library at the New Era One-Room School Museum has opened and has been frequently used, officials said.

The library is located on the campus of the Mineral Wells Elementary School in front of the New Era school.

The library was requested by Esther Carroll, a librarian at Mineral Wells schools and was among the museum’s founders. Kay Hill built the small version of New Era’s building and funding was provided by New Era Museum, Country Roads CEO, of which Carroll and Hill are members, Parkersburg South High School Air Force Junior ROTC, David Pitts, Max Barker and the Kite Festival and John Reed of the Wood County Solid Waste Authority. A grant from the authority financed a bench next to the Little Library.

The library is open around the clock. The nationwide theme is “Take a Book, Leave a Book” and certification is being sought from a national organization.

New Era School is open 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and by appointment. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
