EVE Inc. Auction set for Friday

MARIETTA — With an open checkbook Friday, you may walk away with a trip to Zimbabwe or pay for someone’s needed stay at the local domestic violence shelter.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Friday at the Lafayette Hotel for the annual installment of the EVE Inc. Auction.

“People can show up at the door; it’s $30 a person or if you want to reserve a table you can up until Friday by calling 740-374-5820. A table for 10 is $250 so you’re saving $50 for that bulk,” said Janet Wells, director of EVE.

The night will begin with a silent auction before the bidding wars of the live auction begin around 8 p.m. and opportunities to “buy” services are offered.

EVE Inc. serves local families affected by domestic violence through providing emergency shelter and additional services to bring families out of the cycle of abuse.

“Our services are free and we serve the surrounding counties too because Morgan, Monroe and Noble counties don’t have a shelter like we’re fortunate enough to have here,” said Wells. “We serve both men and women and their children and in 2017 we (answered) more than 3,300 phone calls, served (more than) 700 people and we usually house 100 people in a year in our 30-bed facility.”

The auction Friday will boast not only the offering of a seven-day, seven-night African safari in Zimbabwe, but also tickets to the Columbus Zoo, The Wilds, gift certificates to local restaurants and gift baskets filled with everything from health products to spa essentials or jewelry.

“We use the money to match other grants and leverage other funds,” said Wells. “But we also use it to cover discretionary spends not covered by grants like insurance and utilities.”

She said the auction averages $25,000 in proceeds each year.
