PARKERSBURG — Kevin Gordon’s music continues to simmer like a trip to the bayou on a hot summer eve. His true life stories draw the listener in like quicksand on the edge of the water with everyday tales of life in northern Louisiana.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Americana Music Series will welcome back Kevin Gordon and his band with special guest The Ben Davis Jr. Band and Jacob Dunn on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Artsbridge, 925 Market St. in Parkersburg.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and music will begin around 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for a recommended donation of $10. However, no music supporters are turned away due to financial issues, sponsors said.

The show will help raise money for the Children’s Home Society of WV-Parkersburg office.

“Kevin’s first performance for the series was back in 2012,” musical coordinator Jeff Fox reminisced. “It was in the kitchen/office/activity room of the old Children’s Home Society office and the two dozen folks in attendance that evening were witness to an awesome show.”

In March 2012, Gordon’s album “Gloryland” had just received a 3 ¢ star review in the print edition of Rolling Stone magazine. And USA Today had featured the album a month early, 4 stars out of 4 stars. And a place in USA Today’s lead music critic Jerry Shriver’s 2012 top 10 albums list.

“The audience at that first show knew nothing of these accolades; it was a Sunday evening and I was there by chance,” Fox said. “And we were all blown away! It was easy to go back and read those rave reviews and understand.”

Gordon left northern Louisiana to attend the University of Iowa, where he was accepted into the Writers Workshop. While in Iowa, he also crossed paths with Bo Ramsey, a producer/guitarist who had worked with fellow Americana musician Lucinda Williams.

With a master’s degree in pocket, Gordon landed in East Nashville, Tenn. He began doing what writers do … write and when in “Music City USA” why not write lyrics and songs? And those songs have been sung by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones and the late Levon Helm from the Band, just to name a few of the artists that have been drawn into Gordon’s songs.

On Saturday evening, Gordon will be joined by two other songwriters, Ben Davis Jr. (and his band) and Jacob Dunn in a rare solo appearance, Fox said.

“This makes for a great lineup in reuniting Ben and Jacob on the same bill,” Fox said.

Dunn now fronts his own band, Jake Dunn and the Blackbirds.

“We know this falls in dinner time for fans, so they are welcome to bring their favorite snacks and beverages to enjoy responsibly,” Fox said. “There will not be any sold at the show but there will be some snacks that our gracious supporters often share with all.”
