ArtsLink to kick off programs Friday
NEW MARTINSVILLE — ArtsLink has a pair of programs coming up.
ArtsLink’s Coffeehouse Series will kick off Friday with a concert by The Psychonauts band with local singer/guitarists Kalob Byers and Keith Butcher.
The free concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Francis Creative Arts Center at the corner of Maple Avenue and Washington Street in downtown New Martinsville.
ArtsLink will be holding auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “Peter and Wendy” on Monday, with about 50 roles for children of all ages. Among the roles to be cast are Peter, his Shadow, Tinkerbell and the Lost Boys; Wendy and her brothers John and Michael; their parents Mr. and Mrs. Darling with their faithful friends Nana and Liza.
Captain Hook and his Pirate Crew along with the Crocodile; Tiger Lily, the band of Neverlanders and Neverland Creatures; and, carrying them to Neverland, a group of stormy Clouds. The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup.
Auditions will begin at 9:45 a.m. at the Lincoln Theater in New Martinsville for children entering first through 12th grades. There also are Student Director opportunities for older youths to aid in rehearsals throughout the week, and to take on essential backstage responsibilities. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins approximately 30 minutes after the audition.
While approximately 50 roles will be available, there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play, Missoula officials note.
“This is a group audition – no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts,” said Donna Earley, ArtsLink coordinator. “Students should be ready to come and have a good time.”
Performances will be July 28 at 3 and 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater. Children will rehearse every day the week of July 23 from 10 a.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m. at the theater. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full 4 1/2 hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a sack lunch.
Students in the cast may be called for dress rehearsal before the performance that day. All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances.
