‘The Burn’ preps summer parks youth rally tour

PARKERSBURG — “The Burn” will begin its summer parks youth rally tour of the Mid-Ohio Valley starting Memorial Day weekend today at the Underwood Shelter in Fort Boreman Historical Park.

The MOV Parks Tour will take place each Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at different parks . The rally will consist of praise and worship music, devotions, small groups discussions and prayer. The target audience is senior high and college age youth.

Youth from multi-denominations started meeting about a year ago as an alternative for weekend entertainment and a desire for additional spiritual growth. The meetings consisted of youth led services for youth and they started calling themselves “The Burn” base on Luke 24:32, “Did not our heart burn within us”.

A burden to take the worship outside the walls for a youth rally was laid upon their heart in early spring and the summer park tour was decided upon as a way to reach out to the youth in the valley, event officials said.

“The Burn” will visit parks in Belpre, Marietta, Parkersburg, Vienna and Williamstown. The goal is to reach out to youth in those communities who are seeking spiritual peace in their lives but may be hesitant to visit a church.

Youth groups from local churches are encouraged to attend the rallies and invite those who may not darken a church door, in hopes of bringing salvation and healing in their lives, event officials said.

The schedule includes: May 26th – Fort Boreman Park, Marrtown; June 2nd – Jackson Park, Vienna; June 9th – Lubeck VFD Park, Lubeck; June 16th – Southwood Park, Parkersburg; June 23rd – Tomlinson Park, Williamstown; and June 30th – Point Park, Parkersburg.

July’s schedule includes: July 7th – City Park (Youthfest), Parkersburg; July 14th – Spencer Park, Vienna; July 21st – off week; and July 28th – East Muskingum Park, Marietta.
