Mid Ohio Valley Ringers set for Saturday

VIENNA — The Mid Ohio Valley Ringers will present “Cinco de Bronzefest” at 4 p.m. Saturday at Wayside United Methodist Church, 3001 Grand Central Ave., Vienna.

Admission is free with goodwill offerings accepted.

The program title celebrates Cinco de Mayo and “Bronzefest,” an invitational handbell event that was held in February and included bronze level handbell choirs from three states. The program includes repertoire from that concert along with several Spanish pieces including Malaguena and the Mexican Hat Dance.

The finale is “Serenata de Campanas” which was commissioned and premiered at Bronzefest.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Ringers is West Virginia’s only bronze level community handbell choir, and has members from Parkersburg, Marietta, Williamstown, Little Hocking, Columbus and Charleston.

They ring 6 octaves of Schulmerich handbells, ranging from G2-G8; and 6 1/2 octaves of Malmark chimes, from C2-G8. Weekly rehearsals are held at Wayside United Methodist church in Vienna.

Members of the group include Larry Hawkins, Bryon Yetter, John Nicholson, Alvin Phillips, Jane Charnock, Gary Harris , Rob Hrezo,Lois Coffey, Charlie Thomas, Jane Irvine, Beth Payton, Denise Holmes, Jimmy Sundquist, Donna Thomas, and Marijean Stockwell.

Joining the ensemble are local musicians Rachael and David Puls, violin, and Scott Kitchen and students on percussion.
