Farm Animal Baby Shower celebrates moms

Photo Provided Babies of all kinds will enjoy a day at Sweetapple Farm Saturday as moms are celebrated at the annual Farm Animal Baby Shower.

VINCENT — If you are still looking for a way to celebrate mom this Mother’s Day, Sweetapple Farm in Vincent might have just the thing.

The annual Farm Animal Baby Shower features farm grown food, hay rides and, of course, baby critters. The event was started in 2013 as a way to celebrate spring, rebirth and moms of all kinds.

“It’s just an opportunity for mothers to bring their children, grandchildren, husbands…and we have baby goats, chicks and ducks, which the children all enjoy,” said Mona Barrett, owner of Sweetapple Farm.

There is no admission fee for the event, which will be held at the farm on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Organizers do request donations to the Western Washington County Food Pantry, which serves Warren, Barlow, Dunham and Palmer townships.

“Last year we served 600 families, which averages to about 50 families a month,” said Linda Allen, director of the food pantry. “We are definitely appreciative of events like this and we also accept donations of food and clothes any time.”

Items that the pantry is most in need of, and that ties into the Mother’s Day theme, are larger disposable diapers in sizes 4, 5 and 6, baby wipes, formula and toiletries like baby shampoo and lotion.

“These are things that they can’t buy with WIC or food stamps but we don’t really go out and buy them so it’s nice to have them donated,” Allen said.

At the farm, hay rides will be offered for $4 throughout the day and the farm store will be open with souvenirs, as well as shredded beef sandwiches and other food combos.

Barrett said she will narrate the hay ride and teach about the animals. There will also be an opportunity to walk through the herb garden and eat lunch in the Nursery Rhyme garden.

“Everything is green out here and I think people are interested in getting back to basics, learning to cook with herbs or growing their own vegetables. We always get a big turnout,” Barrett said.
