Scottish and Celtic Heritage Festival slated for Saturday in Parkersburg
Admission is $5, kids under 12 free
PARKERSBURG — The 2018 Scottish and Celtic Heritage Festival will be Saturday at the City Park Pavilion, featuring music, dancing and other attractions.
The festival, now in its 13th year, will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person with children ages 12 and under admitted free.
Entertainment will include Celtic Rain, a husband and wife team based in Indianapolis, Ind. The festival will also include Celtic Scottish fiddler Melinda Crawford, a former U.S. National Scottish Fiddling Champion and performs frequently for Scottish highland games, Celtic festivals, and concerts throughout the United States and abroad.
The traditional Irish band Celtic Rush has been a favorite for festival-goers and the group will return to take the stage for a concert from 3:30-4 p.m. at this year’s festival.
A performance by the West Virginia Highland Scottish Dancers will round out the entertainment schedule.
The Scottish and Celtic Heritage Festival will also feature artisans demonstrating their craft, children’s games and activities, including a Pot of Gold Treasure Hunt and local cartoonist J.D. Williamson will be on hand.
A Bonnie Knees competition will be offered for all ages, there will be genealogy help for those searching for their Celtic ancestors, Scottish Clan exhibitors, local history displays, and vendors selling Celtic wares.
Athens resident Kelly Lawrence, of Green Mantle Studio, will have her artwork depicting ancient Celtic culture and mythology.
Members of St. Andrew Pipes and Drums, based in Parkersburg, will entertain following a flag raising ceremony with the Sons of the American Revolution members.
