New Miss West Virginia visits Lubeck Elementary School students
LUBECK — Students at Lubeck Elementary School received a visit Thursday from the newly crowned Miss West Virginia United States.
Chelsi Rose, 23, of Parkersburg, was crowned Miss West Virginia Saturday and will compete for the Miss United States title in July.
“I’m extremely excited,” Rose said Thursday. “These next three months are going to be a lot of preparation for that. I’ve kind of hit the ground running and I’m trying to get out into the community as much as possible.”
Teacher Paula DeLong said she has known Rose and her family for some time. She congratulated Rose on her win through Facebook, and Rose asked if she could visit DeLong’s class.
DeLong said her second-graders were thrilled to have Rose visit.
“One of the kids did his hair special today and he told me ‘I did it for Miss West Virginia,'” DeLong said.
Rose spoke to the students and led them through an activity on kindness.
“I want to show the kids kindness is important. They can make a difference just by being kind to one another,” she said.
Principal Jeff Hardman said Rose provides a positive role model for the students.
“I think it is good for the kids, to have them see someone who has accomplished so much,” Hardman said.
Rose said she is hoping to receive support from the community as she competes for Miss United States in July.
“I am seeking sponsors,” she said. “If anyone in the community wants to help out or needs appearances, sponsorships would be a huge opportunity.”
Rose said she can be contacted through her Facebook page or via email at chelsi@fstimages.com.
