WILLIAMSTOWN — Williamstown High School junior Carsen Hesson said her mother has been an inspiration, one she hopes to carry into her own life and career.

“I’d like to follow in my mom’s footsteps and become a nurse. Go into pediatrics and work with children,” Hesson said.

The 17-year-old said when she was younger she watched her mother Michelle Hesson pursue her education and career.

“I grew up always thinking of her as a role model,” Carsen Hesson said. “I see a lot of myself in her.”

A career direction wasn’t the only thing Carsen Hesson gained from her mom.

“She’s the person I get my artistic skill from,” Carsen Hesson said.

That skill has led Carsen Hesson to complete numerous artist projects for others, including work on a mural in the cafeteria at Williamstown High. An older mural at the school had faded over time, and Carsen Hesson said she came up with a new design and painted over the old mural.

“Last year, we started right before Christmas break,” she said. “We just completely painted over the old mural.”

Carson Hesson said she has started a second mural, and hopes to have it finished within the year.

“I only have 45 minutes a day to work on it,” she said. “They told me I can’t graduate until I get it done.

As a student, Carsen Hesson averages A’s and take Advance Placement classes. She is a member of the WHS Prom Committee, Pep Club, Student Council and National Honor Society.

She is an avid runner, participating in both track and cross country.

“I run a lot. It seems I can never stop running,” she said.

Carsen Hesson said whenever she has down time, she goes back to her art.

“I like more detailed (projects), and I like shading, anything with pencil,” she said. “It’s a wide range of things I like. I try to keep busy.”
