Parkersburg Art Center’s Art-o-Rama slated for Saturday

PARKERSBURG — “Art-o-Rama,” the Parkersburg Art Center’s free community arts event for children, will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The event is made possible though support from the Virginia L. Neptune Foundation and the PARS Spine and Brain Institute.

Art-o-Rama is described as a smorgasbord of activities for kids, with a parent or guardian. There are hands-on art stations, including painting, pottery, cartooning and sculpture, as well as dancing and drumming, puppetry, Lego-building and face-painting.

Live entertainment includes performances by the Actors Guild’s Guild Builders, Schrader Youth Ballet, Williamstown Strings, the Smoot Theatre’s Barbershop Quartet, and Amanda DeBarr Stevens, who will be performing as the character “Elsa” from the movie “Frozen.”

Other groups participating are people from Point Park Marketplace (printing with vegetables), John Hyde and Mike Naylor from Mountwood Park (doing a nature station), the Boys and Girls Club (doing a science station), and MaryMary Gonot and Friends (doing a drum circle with the kids).

Art-o-Rama kicks off the summer Camp Creativity season at the Art Center, so several free weeks of camp will be given away, said Art Center Director Abby Hayhurst. This Saturday is the only day when a parent can sign up a child for camp and get a discount, she said.

This is the 10th anniversary of “Art-o-Rama,” a free event.
