Johnny Cash Tribute Show to benefit Children’s Home Society

PARKERSBURG — Children’s Home Society of West Virginia will be hosting a Johnny Cash Tribute Show today at VFW Post 1212, 1630 Garfield Ave., Parkersburg.

Doors open at 7 p.m., with music beginning at 7:30. A $10 donation will be taken at the door with all proceeds to benefit Children’s Home Society of WV in its work with children and families through the Mid-Town Family Resource Center.

Part of the Americana Music Tribute Series, the benefit will feature local musicians playing music in the spirit of Johnny Cash. A closing performance will feature Ben Davis Jr.

The VFW Post will offer food and beverages. To celebrate the birthday of “The Man in Black,” Children’s Home Society of WV will be offering gourmet cupcakes for sale. To add to the fun, a Johnny Cash/June Carter Cash look-alike competition is planned, as well as other contests.

Tickets will be sold for a chance to win several raffle baskets, as well as a 50/50 raffle. The grand prize “Million Dollar Quartet Package” includes two tickets to the Tony Award-Winning Broadway musical “Million Dollar Quartet” being performed at the Smoot Theatre on April 6, gift certificates to the Blennerhassett Hotel and “some consumable goodies.”

“We’re really excited to be hosting this event at the VFW Post 1212 this year. This is a new venue for our tribute show and we feel it’s a great location,” said Lisa Weaver, program director of the Mid-Town Family Resource Center. “We’ve been providing this particular music tribute for the public since 2006 as a fundraiser to support the programs of the resource center. Those programs include the afterschool school program at McKinley Elementary School, a 6-week Summer Youth Program, a clothing closet and food pantry for the community. If you enjoy live music, and have a heart for children, this is an event where you can support both.”
