Mid-Ohio Valley WIC offers hats, mittens

PARKERSBURG — Last year Mid-Ohio Valley WIC started a tradition of offering children a free hat or a pair of mittens during the holidays.

Each child visiting the Parkersburg WIC clinic for an appointment can choose an item from the Christmas tree. The annual Hat and Mitten Tree started on Dec. 1.

The program accepts donations from the public, mostly employees from the health department, and decorates the Christmas tree.

The Hat and Mitten Tree is the staff’s way of giving something extra to clients so parents have one less worry about making sure their children have what they need for winter, officials said.

The tree will be available during December or until supplies are gone.
