South art students decorate for Festival of Trees
PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg South High School art students are decking the halls for the annual Festival of Trees at the Blennerhassett Hotel.
The event is in partnership with Easter Seals. Groups throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley decorate trees which are displayed at the hotel and auctioned off, with proceeds going to benefit Easter Seals programs.
Parkersburg South art teacher Abbie Burge and the South art students pick a theme for the tree and wreath. This year’s theme is “Aren’t You Plaid It’s Christmas?” The tree and wreath decorations consist of plaid ornaments, ribbon, and various figurines that fit the plaid motif. All art students are invited to help in the decorating.
During the holidays, thousands of people from around the area travel to downtown Parkersburg to be a part of Festival of Trees. The event has become a key part of the city’s holiday season and is ranked number four on Only in West Virginia’s “11 Christmas Light Displays in West Virginia That are Pure Magic.”
Viewing of the trees will be in the Blennerhassett Hotel promenade and lobby from Nov. 15 through Dec. 7, leading up to the auction. The live auction will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 7, with a silent auction beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets to the auction are $30 per person and can be purchased in advance or at the door.
