PARKERSBURG — The sounds of smooth jazz will fill the 700 and 800 blocks of Market Street on Sept. 30.

The gates open at 4 p.m. and music will be from 5-9 p.m. during the free “Wine and Jazz on Market Street” festival, said event organizer David Wells of Vienna, founder and chief executive officer of the Chocolate Jazz Foundation. All proceeds will go to the foundation to help fight against bullying in the public schools, Wells said.

Smooth jazz entertainment includes 5-6 p.m., Kevin Howard Band from Pittsburgh; 6:30-7:30 p.m., Otis Crockron and Co. from Athens, Ohio; and 8-9 p.m., David Wells featuring Dwight Brown from Cleveland.

There will be arts and crafts vendors and a barbecue vendor on Market Street between Seventh and Eighth streets during the music event, and Mango Latin Bistro and Parkersburg Brewing Co. are open nearby, Wells said.

“‘Wine and Jazz on Market Street (wineandjazzonmarketstreet.com) is Chocolate Jazz Foundation’s only fundraiser for the year. One-hundred percent of the money we raise will stay in Wood County,” Wells said.

“Chocolate Jazz Foundation is committed in making this a successful annual event, which I feel, in time, will bring thousands of people to enjoy great music, great ribs, and especially everything the Mid-Ohio Valley has to offer,” Wells said.
