VIENNA — The FOR Club at Jackson Middle School has its first targeted act of kindness planned for small children in October.

FOR stands for Friends of Rachel. The club was formed in honor of Rachel Joy Scott, who was the first victim of the Columbine School shootings in Colorado.

Members of the FOR Club discussed the unsafe neighborhoods and heightening crime rates, said Cherish George, teacher at Jackson Middle School in Vienna and one of the club’s leaders.

“They thought it would be nice to host a ‘Trunk-or-Treat’ to provide a safe place for parents to bring their children” during the Halloween season, George said. The event will be at the Jackson Middle School parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

Club members are accepting any Halloween candy donations to help them carry out their mission, George said. “Any candy donations would be appreciated and can be dropped off at the school in care of ‘Trunk-or-Treat,'” George said.

The club’s mission is to carry out Rachel Joy Scott’s mission, which is to target acts of kindness in hopes to start a chain reaction of kindness, George said.

“It’s so exciting to see these kids welcome the club at Jackson and wish to unite with fellow classmates to make the world a better place. In this club, we are all family,” George said. “It doesn’t matter what walk of life you come from.”

George is leading the seventh-grade FOR Club (with over 60 members so far), Elizabeth Larsen (school counselor) is leading the eighth-grade club and Janet Fleenor is leading the sixth-grade club.

Each grade level is growing daily in members, George said.

George led a similar kindness club when she taught at Edison Middle School.
