Artsbridge exhibits family’s works

Photo Provided Artwork of Sharmila Jones is among the art being exhibited.

PARKERSBURG — Artsbridge is hosting the artwork of Mansoor Matcheswalla, his daughter Sharmila Jones, and his grandchildren Nadeem (age 15), Rohen (age 12), Samir (age 11) and Riya (age 9) at the Artsbridge office, 925 Market St., during the month of September.

Mansoor is an Artsbridge Board member and his daughter Sharmila is a pediatrician in Charleston.

Sharmila and her children have been creating artwork for at least seven years. What was initially a creative family activity has evolved into a true passion.

They designate Thursday evenings as “family art night,” and while they independently produce original works, it has also been a dynamic way to learn about artists, history, artistic techniques and different art mediums, the family said.

They have “learned new ways to look at our surroundings and recreate them in unique ways.”

Photo Provided Artwork of Sharmila Jones is among the art being exhibited this month at Artsbridge, 925 Market St. in Parkersburg.

The children have been illustrators of two children’s books and have their work displayed in Gallery 409 in Point Pleasant as well as the French Art Colony in Gallipolis, Ohio.

Sharmila is a figurative artist whose subject matter emphasizes children at play. She uses an impressionistic style of painting that blurs the lines of realism into fantasy, she said.

Her works are displayed at the Art Emporium in Charleston and are available on a commission basis.

The exhibit can be viewed next Thursday, Sept. 14 at Artsbridge in Parkersburg from 5-7 p.m. and is open to the public and free of charge. The exhibit can also be viewed during working hours Tuesday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., or by appointment.

Call the Artsbridge office, 304-428-3988, for more information.
