Parkersburg South High School’s Key Club to hold blood drive June 29
PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg South High School’s Key Club will hold a blood drive June 29 at South Parkersburg Baptist Church.
The drive will run from 1-6 p.m. at the church’s youth center at 1655 Blizzard Drive in Parkersburg. Adults must bring a valid ID.
Donors can be as young as 16, but must be accompanied by a parent or have a signed parental consent form.
South Key Club President Hali Buffington said this is the fourth blood drive the group has headed for the 2017-18 school year.
“It is important because it really puts into perspective how much you can do for the community,” she said. “Every pint of blood donated can save up to three people, so us doing this really makes a difference.”
The blood drive also helps fund a Key Club scholarship through the American Red Cross. Buffington said if the club receives at least 31 donations next week the scholarship amount will increase from about $1,000 to $2,500.
Buffington said the club will be well-represented at next week’s drive, with volunteers helping the American Red Cross personnel.
“We’ll probably have about 15 (club members) helping out,” she said.
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or by visiting redcrossblood.org online and entering PSHS. Walk-ins also are welcome.
