Ohio Valley Summer Theater to offer free storytelling workshops
ATHENS, Ohio — The Ohio Valley Summer Theater will be holding free storytelling workshops beginning July 6.
The theater and Barbara Geralds Institute for Storytelling and Social Impact are co-sponsoring two free storytelling workshops. The workshops will explore the theme, “All You Need Is Love.” Participants will consider social issues including racism, sexism and body image, bullying, media, and conflict.
Designed to coincide with the theater’s 2017 summer production of “Hairspray,” which brings these social justice themes to the main stage, the workshops will explore how we create and share stories about the value of inclusion, compassion, and community.
Teaching artists Merri Biechler and Emily Prince will facilitate the workshops, which will be held in the Forum Theater and Schoonover Center on the Ohio University Campus. A catered lunch will be provided to all participants.
The first storytelling workshop is for ages 12-17 on July 6 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The second workshop is for ages 18 and up on July 7 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Registration for the workshops is required and space is limited.
Tickets are on sale now for performances of Hairspray, which runs July 20 through Aug. 6 in the Forum Theater. For workshop registration and show information, contact OVST at firstname.lastname@example.org, 740-535-OVST (6878) or ovst.org.
