Underage drinking, drug use reported at Meigs party

POMEROY, Ohio — Charges are pending against numerous underage individuals caught drinking and using drugs at a large party over the weekend in Columbia Township, the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office received complaints around 12:30 a.m. Saturday about a large party at a residence on Cone Road, where 40 to 50 vehicles were reportedly parked along the road and in fields, with beer cans strewn about, according to a news release the sheriff’s office issued Wednesday.

At the residence, deputies found approximately 100 teenagers and young adults, “with underage drinking as well as drug usage occurring,” the release says.

More teenagers were located inside, along with an underage girl who had to be taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Several party-goers fled into a nearby wooded area but eventually returned while officers were still there, the release says.

Most of the teens and young adults in attendance were from outside of Meigs County, it says.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Ohio Investigative Unit, Vinton County Sheriff’s Office and McArthur, Middleport and Syracuse Police departments assisted at the scene.

The residence’s owner, Mindy Grady, 36, and her son Dominick, 18, were taken to the Meigs sheriff’s office but later released pending the filing of charges by the Ohio Investigative Unit.

That agency intends to file charges against everyone under the age of 21 who was drinking at the party, the release says.

Everyone younger than 21 who was drinking and all individuals under 18 were turned over to a parent or guardian either at the scene or at the sheriff’s office, the release says.

Several vehicles parked on the roadway were towed from the location and impounded.

The case remains under investigation.
