PARKERSBURG — Local author Don Stansberry, a teacher and former Parkersburg High School coach, spoke to the Kiwanis Club of North Parkersburg.

Lois Meadows, former president of Kiwanis Club of North Parkersburg, lieutenant governor, West Virginia Division 2, introduced Stansberry.

Stansberry, a native West Virginian and author of books, is a fourth-grade teacher at Emerson School. He was PHS head girls’ basketball coach and retired from that position of 16 years after his teams earned four state championships.

His first novel in 2012, “Secret Blood,” is a religious thriller about the cloning of Jesus. The book was a winner in the Wild Card category of the London Book Festival.

Stansberry began his writing career with the publication of children’s books: “Crusty; Inky and the Missing Gold,” “Inky, Oglebee, and the Witches” and “Skipping through the ABC’s of History.”

His most recent novel, “Vulture Bend,” a horror-romance, was published by Headline Books and will be featured at a book release party 3-7 p.m. May 30 at the Grand Pointe Conference Center in Vienna.

Stansberry plans to perform readings during the party, which is open to the public.
